Jose Aldo, UFC featherweight champion and former WEC champion, takes on challenger Mark Hominick at UFC 129 in Toronto, CA on April 30th, 2011.
While Canada native Hominick (+400 at BetUS for USA/Canada bettors or 4.5 at Bet365 for UK/European gamblers) clearly has a lot of local support, Aldo has the pedigree. Here are the latest betting lines and our pick for Aldo v Hominick.

THE CASE FOR MARK HOMINICK
Hominick has a record of 20-8, which, at face value, isn’t fantastic, but Hominick has come up against some seriously good opposition during his career. His punching is an extremely potent weapon, as seen in his victory over George Roop at UFC Fight Night 23. Hominick’s stand up is his strength and his body punching is probably the best in his weight class.
In order to overcome Aldo, these are the skills he is going to have to bring to the Octagon. Hominick supporters believe that the manner of his wins over Leonard Garcia, Jorge Gurgel and Yves Edwards point the way to how he might defeat Jose Aldo.
THE CASE FOR JOSE ALDO
Aldo is the clear betting favorite and, as current UFC champion, it’s not hard to see why. UK/European gamblers can back him at 1.22 with Paddy Power while US bettors should take -456 at SportBet .
Aldo has lost just once in 19 fights and the list of fighters he has conquered reads like a who’s who of MMA: Manny Gamburyan, Urijah Faber, Mike Brown, the list goes on.
As a pure martial artist, Aldo is by far the better fighter: a Jiu Jitsu blackbelt; he is also a phenomenal Muay Thai practitioner. In fact, his Muay Thai skills could even be described as ‘savage’. That’s why he wins so many by knockout.
ALDO v HOMINICK PICK
I think this is going to be a hugely exciting fight and, for sure, it’s not going to go the distance. However, Aldo’s all round game is superior to Hominick’s and I can’ t see past a Jose Aldo victory. It may go to the judges, but Aldo will prevail.
