While the Machida-Shogun fight is rightfully top of the bill, Ben Rothwell vs Cain Velasquez is shaping up to be quite an event in it’s own right.
Rothwell (30-6) is an immense heavyweight and former darling of the Affliction organization, but isn’t really a well known name to fans of the UFC. All that might change on October 24th in the Staples Centre, Los Angeles.

Rothwell vs Velasquez Pick and Betting Tips
27 year old Cain Velasquez (6-0) is one of the upcoming stars of the UFC and his strong wrestling background means he can more than hold his own with bigger fighters. And believe me, at around 265, Rothwell is a bigger fighter.
Velasquez will want to go to ground as soon as possible, where he has all the advantages, so Rothwell will have to be wary in the first round. It could be over quickly if Rothwell isn’t sharp from the start.
However, if the fight goes past round one, Rothwell is vastly more experienced and is no one-trick pony.
Looking back at the fights he has won, Rothwell has shown that he has a repetoire of skills that can win him the big fights. He’s defeated Roy Nelson and Krzysztof Soszynski among others.
While Velasquez is a phenomenal fighter and the favorite to win this, I think the betting public have got this one wrong. I put this down to a lack of awareness of Rothwell’s power and skills and I’m taking Rothwell to win by TKO in round two.
