Franken-Fights! How would you build the perfect MMA promotion?

We all have our favorite promotions to watch MMA. I’ve never been secretive about my affection for World Extreme Cagefighting, others still hold a torch for the now-defunct Pride Fighting Championships. But since no promotion is perfect, let’s construct the perfect promotion, shall we?

I bring you … FRANKEN-FIGHTS! This new promotion would consist of:

The dependably exciting fights of the WEC: Can you remember a WEC card that didn’t have a fight that could be the fight of the year? Me neither. One of the reasons I love the WEC so much is that I never feel like I’ve wasted time after watching their events. This Saturday, WEC 43 will feature Ben Henderson vs. Donald Cerrone, and I expect that to be another amazing fight.

The deep bench and perfectly-run events of the UFC: When Mark Coleman pulled out of his UFC 106 bout with Tito Ortiz, conversation did not center around, “Will the UFC be able to find a good bout for Ortiz?” It was going through the many choices that the UFC could possibly offer to fight Ortiz.

Also, UFC events are run as a tight ship. Fights are well-timed, and whether they’re in the arena or watching on TV, fans benefit. The precision allows for undercard fights to be shown quickly on pay-per-view events, and for fans at the events to be able to know exactly how long they have until they need to be in their seats again.

The exuberance and entertainment factor of DREAM: I’m not a fan of the freak show fights or the lack of drug-testing, but no one leaves a DREAM event in a bad mood. Fighting is taken seriously, but fighters don’t take themselves seriously. Crazy entrances, over-the-top sets and graphics, and the always amazing Lenne Hardt add to the party atmosphere of DREAM fights. At the end of the final fight, they drop confetti and streamers.

The Strikeforce Challengers Series: Up-and-coming fighters are given a shot to show their stuff on television. It’s that simple, and that enjoyable. Strikeforce’s best prospects are not thrust into tough fights too soon. Instead, they are given the chance to grow into top fighters before being in the Strikeforce CBS spotlight.

Bellator’s attention to fans of all markets: Bellator’s attention to the Hispanic market and openness to using the internet to share the best of their fights helped them take hold in an already crowded market of MMA promotions. Quick, what was the submission of the year? If you say Toby Imada’s inverted triangle choke — and you should — it’s because Bellator made sure you saw that clip, even though the fight was only shown on ESPN Deportes.

Now, it’s your turn. If you had to construct the perfect promotion out of the different fight groups out there right now, how would you do it?
