Does Ricco Rodriguez deserve a shot at CBS?

Strikeforce’s initial Fedor Emelianenko fight card is coming together. There seems to be a lean towards the big boys on the Nov. 7 CBS card. Fedor (6-foot, 230 pounds), the world’s No. 1 heavyweight, will face unbeaten Brett Rogers (6-5, 260). Fabricio Werdum (6-5, 230), Antonio Silva (6-5, 265) and Bobby Lashley (6-3, 255) are all rumored for the card. They may all be featured in separate bouts.
Rumor has it that 43-year-old Ron Waterman is being considered for Lashley. Lashley is far enough along in his MMA career that he doesn’t have to fight a tomato can like Waterman.
Why shouldn’t former UFC heavyweight Ricco Rodriguez be in the mix to face one of these guys? His story of coming back from the depths of drug addiction would play well with the media before the event. And he really appears to have kicked his trouble to curb. Rodriguez, 32, was an embarrassment two years ago when he ballooned to 300-plus pounds. Well, as you can see in the photo above he’s pulling things together. He was reportedly 235 in that photo on the right.
The card is pretty solid at the top with Jason Miller challenging Jake Shields, and Gegard Mousasi fighting as well.
