Showtime/’Strikefarce’ production work may force UFC’s hand

UFC has set the pace for prefight video packages. The arena experience with the big screens, the pounding music and the interview pieces put boxing to shame. But now UFC may be looking up at Showtime’s work on the production end. Take a look at the 96 second reel Showtime has leading into the big Gina Carano-Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos fight.

One has to wonder if Showtime and Strikeforce, who UFC president Dana White, called “Strikefarce” last week, ramped it up a bit with the new rivalry developing. It might be time for the UFC to move from the longstanding “Gladiator” theme and interviews as the lead-in to its fights.

Do HBO and other networks have a point in demanding more production control from the UFC if they were to ever forge a deal?
